ABSTRACT

Water harvesting is practiced in many ways to solve the various water needs of people living in the dry areas. Some of the techniques are used solely to provide water for plant production, while the others are used to provide water for human and animal consumption or for groundwater recharge (Figures 3.1 and 3.2). Some of the techniques in use are similar to each other, but may have different names in different regions. Others may have similar names, but be in practice completely different from each other (Critchley & Siegert, 1991).
