ABSTRACT
The real-world context of managerial decision making makes it difficult to implement the SEU maximization model. Workplace decisions involve multiple players and require functioning within the framework of organiza tional goals and norms, two of eight factors that inhibit SEU maximization i field settings (Orasanu & Connolly, 1993). Managers must often contend with the other complicating factors discussed by Orasanu and Connolly: ill structured problems; uncertain, dynamic environments; shifting, ill-defined, or competing goals; action/feedback loops; time stress; and high stakes.
