ABSTRACT

There has been a skepticism in the naturalistic decision-making commu nity of the value of attempts to capture in the laboratory the essential char acteristics of decision making as this occurs in naturalistic situations. Team-based (networked) computer simulations are now increasingly recog nized by practitioners as having adequate fidelity for training and for deci sion support in operations (cf. Elliott, Dalrymple, Regian, & Schiflett, 2001). One of the outcomes of this recognition is that such simulations are also seen by researchers as a suitable platform for investigating the key psycho logical processes involved in multiperson dynamic decision tasks (Weaver, Bowers, Salas, & Cannon-Bowers, 1995).
