ABSTRACT

Understanding the role of experience/expertise in NDM is important not only because of the complexity of decisions made in dynamic environments but also because of the high cognitive demands placed on the operators. Studying how people practically apply their knowledge and experience in making critical decisions has highlighted the importance of intuitiveness as closely tied to expertise in NDM. The role of intuitiveness relative to NDM can be more easily understood by examining the recognition primed deci sion making (RPD) model (Klein, 1997).
