ABSTRACT
Throughout this book, frequent reference has been made to the use of coal as a source of energy and its role in determining whether or not the United States can develop energy independence (also often referred to as energy security) insofar as energy independence means a reduced reliance on foreign source of energy, particularly foreign oil.
