ABSTRACT

Stress-induced pathological changes can affect the psychological and physiological balances (Selye 1956). In studies related to stress, rats have been widely used. There is an established model for producing gastric lesions, which we refer to as stress-induced gastric mucosal injury (SIGMI). SIGMI can be produced by various methods such as restraint stress (Brodie et al. 1962; Galvine 1985; Hayase and Takeuchi 1986), water immersion restraint stress (WIRS) (Kitagawa et al. 1979; Arai et al. 1987), and cold restraint stress (Galvine et al. 1986; Al-Moutairy and Tariq 1996).
