ABSTRACT

Gathering metrics (measurements) on a design and on a project is one of the more sophisticated project management processes and can be the hardest to implement. Because metrics can be hard to dene and collect, they are usually ignored. All projects should at least involve collecting basic information about the estimated and actual schedule. Next most important would be collecting information on estimated and actual project costs. However, it might (or might not) surprise you to know many organizations do not track project costs and do not really care about them. This is especially true in organizations where the project work is done using internal labor and there is no internal chargeback.
