ABSTRACT

Recognizing the impact of buildings on global energy consumption and CO2 emissions, as stated by the IPCC (Levine, Ürge-Vorsatz et al. 2007), their environmental performance has become of growing importance. This is not only reflected in increasingly stricter norms and directives such as the EPBD (European Comission 2010), it has also led to environmental performance being a marketable value for project developers. In order to be most effective, however, it is widely acknowledged that environmental performance has to be considered already in the early design phase.
