ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Machinery and equipment usually contain integrated subsystems. Today's vehicles provide excellent
examples of the application of the concept. Some of the subsystems perform discrete functions, and
some are involved in monitoring and controlling inputs, internal functions and outputs. Oftentimes the
machine or equipment is greater than the sum of the contributions from the subsystems.
