ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 showed that “Lean” and “wasteful” are almost entirely quantifiable by exactly four KPIs or CTL characteristics: (1) waste of the time of things, (2) waste of the time of people, (3) waste of materials, and (4) waste of energy. Only when all these wastes are zero is it possible to conclude that there is no better way to do the job in question, which means it is always a good idea to assume that there is a better way. The next step is to put these measurements to work to identify and remove waste.
