ABSTRACT
Most of these characters have specified uses in Fortran. For example, the letters crop up in statement keywords like WRITE or STOP; the digits and decimal point are used to represent numbers; characters like
+ and – are used in the usual way for mathematical operations; and so on. Virtually all the Fortran standard characters should exist on any keyboard and it should be possible to display them all on any screen or printer.
