ABSTRACT
This chapter details the foundations and frameworks of an open source-based enterprise data warehousing/business intelligence (EDW/BI) solution. Beginning with the notion of “open” in open source and examining the viability and availability of the architectures in context, the chapter uncovers the solution architecture in terms of design, development, and deployment, highlighting the key differentiators and integrators of adopting an open source alternative to proprietary DW and BI solutions. The chapter emphasizes the Open Source Perfect as the trending and future direction of DW and BI by way of its business uses and abuses (to be aware of). The better business benefit approach requires timely decision making supported by confidence – continuous BI at each and every level of business domain to achieve the best privilege, with the ability to solve snags and problems in a “best-fit” manner.
