ABSTRACT

The team development plan is an essential resource for leading and developing teams through their life cycles. Understanding the components of a team development plan and seeing a visual outline is usually what is needed to motivate project team leaders to complete it without reservation. The process of creating a team vision involves strategic, analytical, and innovative thinking. The team development plan is a baseline document that identifies the team’s stage of development and provides an action plan for guiding and managing its continued growth. A “Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats” analysis identifies potential opportunities and threats to success based on external factors including customer trends, changing economic conditions, and competitive developments. The value of the team performance section of the team development plan is that it can assist the team leader in assessing the team’s level of performance based on how it manages both tasks and relationships.
