ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the mobility opportunities, the benefits of mobility, the various mobility solutions for mobile operators and mobile handset manufacturers, which represent a subset of the telecom industry. The mobile communication industry is a fast-growing, highly technology-oriented business segment with operations across the globe, covering telecom mobile operators, software and solution providers, testing and measurement equipment providers, and mobile handset manufacturers. The telecom industry is growing at a fast rate, and the number of mobile communication service providers across the globe is increasing day by day. Mobile operators can also tie-up with other service providers to implement assistance programs to the subscribers. Lifestyle solutions open up a new revenue channel for mobile operators across the globe. The mobile communication industry is highly competitive, and mobile operators and handset manufacturers or original equipment manufacturers are struggling to grab and retain the market share.
