ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the mobility opportunities, the benefits of mobility, the various mobility solutions for energy and utility services management, and a case study of a mobility solution for automated metering. Mobility can be adopted in the energy and utilities sector for almost all services in the areas of production, service, distribution, and transmission. Adoption of mobility for installation services will enable real-time progress tracking, saving of effort, and contribute to productivity improvements. Implementation of Adoption of automatic identification and data collection and mobility solutions will also help in the usage trend analysis, restocking needs, and productivity improvements. Enablement of consumer mobility, by developing mobile utility service management consumer applications for the popular smartphone devices, will provide an enhanced customer experience. Mobility adoption requires a lot of infrastructure investment in terms of hardware and software. Field device provisioning and management is a challenging task in the implementation of mobility.
