ABSTRACT

Near field communication (NFC) is a simple but profound technology that is fast evolving along with other mobile technologies in the market. The concept of NFC was coinvented by NXP Semiconductors and Sony in 2002. NFC is a collection of short-range wireless communication technologies developed for enabling communication and data transfer between two devices that have hardware and software support for this technology. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute or the Smartcard Platform defines the standards for the interface between the subscriber identity module card and the NFC chipset. NFC finds its application in contactless smartcards and readers. The main advantage and distinguishing factor of NFC devices compared with other mobile wireless technologies is fast transactions with a single touch. NFC tags can be used to track the monitoring of a patient. Doctors and nurses have to scan their NFC device or smartcard to register their actions.
