ABSTRACT

As in Section 13.1.1, we consider a counting process Nt , with N0 = 0, and denote by τ1,τ2, ... the consecutive interarrival times. We again suppose that τi’s are independent and identically distributed positive r.v’s, but now, we do not assume the distribution of τ’s to be exponential. In this general case, a counting process is usually called renewal, and the term comes from the following typical interpretation.
