ABSTRACT
The Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) basin is a unique environmental system and one of the world’s richest natural resource estates (Table 2.1). It is the world’s largest river system in terms of population and the second largest river system in terms of discharge intensity (m3/s/km2), which is almost the same as that of the Amazon and way above any other major river system.
