ABSTRACT

In order to describe the space-time evolution of weakly nonlinear high frequency electrostatic plasma waves in magnetized plasmas we follow the analysis of Section 14.1. Again we have two limits: one where the ions are considered immobile, and one where we allow for a slow ion motion. This chapter will not consider nonlinear ion waves, only note that there are some similarities between the nonlinear upper-hybrid wave model discussed here and models for weakly nonlinear lower-hybrid waves (Shapiro et al. 1993).
