ABSTRACT

Piezoelectric materials have a large number of medical applications based on their sensor and actuator characteristics and on their ability to generate and detect ultrasound. Many piezoelectric devices are routinely used in hospitals for medical diagnosis and therapy. The high potential of piezoelectric material as a smart material has made it a very important subject of interest for researchers all over the world, and many new innovative medical applications of the materials are constantly being reported. Table 5.1 summarizes the various piezoelectric applications/devices in the medical eld. Some of the devices are commercially available, and some are still in the research and development stage.
