ABSTRACT

CTDM must have as an objective better understanding, rational decision making, or both. It relies on argumentation as a dialog to improve the views and conclusions stemming from the exchanges between interested individuals or bodies. The simplest two-element arguments (reason → conclusion), categorical syllogisms as classical forms of reasoning or Toulmin’s modern argumentation model, might, are, and should be used in Socratic dialogue and problem solving, development and discussion of research findings, or various clinical rounds discussions. All these ways of clinical problem solving and its components and building blocks must be supported by the best available evidence.
