10.7.3 Eigenfunction solution We can solve equation (1) by expanding the function f as the weighted sum of the

eigenfunctions [as in equation (4)]. We have already done this in the matrix formulation of the problem. The advantage of this method is that it is straightforward and we can include the effects of measurement noise quite easily. The drawback is that, in order to use this method, we have to know what the eigenfunctions of K are.
