ABSTRACT

Driving imposes a high level of demand on the manual and visual resources of the driver who is required to obtain, process and monitor information from a wide range of sources (Rockwell, 1988; Zwahlen et al, 1988; Wierwille, 1993). To perform the task both safely and efficiently the driver must be able to divide attention successfully between the external road scene and the information provided by the vehicle’s secondary controls and information systems.
