ABSTRACT

Localized drug delivery to the mouth is used for the treatment of conditions of the oral cavity, principally aphthous ulcers, fungal conditions and periodontal disease. However, in addition to topical delivery, there has been considerable interest in the possibility of oral transmucosal delivery in order to achieve the

systemic delivery of drug moieties via the mucous membranes of the oral cavity. It is this latter possibility that is the subject of this chapter.
