ABSTRACT

For many years, food processing and drinks manufacturing companies have shown their leadership in environmental sustainability. ¢is includes their instant disposal of the waste generated, their energy use, and water consumption and increasing their efficiency in resource and engaging in a range of initiatives with food-chain partners and enjoying their inbuilt benefits. First, it is from Nature that they receive their raw materials, and this forms the basis for the long-term health and prosperity of the sector (CIAA 2008). Hence, to ensure longterm sustainability, the food processing industries are continuously looking for ways to improve the environmental performance of their

products and processes, while meeting consumers’ needs for foodsafety, nutrition, health, convenience, lifestyle and product choices.
