Since the prestress Ps is constant along the span and is predetermined, the object is to determine the value of the range of eccentricities at each section in order to satisfy stress limitations.

The smaller of the values of eccentricity at a section given by equations (5.1) and (5.2) and the larger of the values of eccentricity given by equations (5.3) and (5.4) define the range of the eccentricity possible at a section. Section 5.2.1 gives a numerical example.
