ABSTRACT

Soft tissue is often broken down by bacteria, fungi, and protozoa—microscopic organisms or microbes found in the body and the environment. Microbes are found almost everywhere and play a useful role in maintaining balance in lives. There are literally thousands of types of bacteria in nature and many types prefer to live in an environment that is moist and warm. Microbes can include bacteria, protozoa, yeast, etc., but will be generically referred to as bacteria and microbes. Some prefer to live in conditions where there are high levels of oxygen, while others prefer to live where there are low levels of oxygen. If the oxygen levels change, there can be a shift in the type of microbes found in a specific area. Organic is a term often heard. It basically means that a chemical molecule or compound has a carbon atom.
