ABSTRACT
Despite the importance of biophysical assessment of nail physiology, minimal literature analyzes biophysical and biochemical processes. This chapter re–ects the progress in the —eld. Based on recent focus on the understanding of nail physiology, this chapter explains the mechanisms involved in nail barrier function and hydration and summarizes the publications on the noninvasive biophysical assessment of nail physiology parameters. This chapter will be useful for scientists in the bioengineering —eld by presenting methods that offer reliable and reproducible approaches for product testing.
