ABSTRACT

A less-complicated view of Toyota Production System (TPS) is the implementation of a Lean technique or tool. Systems thinking can help bring new insights and thinking for understanding TPS and provide a universal framework for organizational change. The properties of Toyota’s management system can be developed using systems theory. Regulation defines how a system self-regulates or controls its functions, characteristics, and objectives. Goal seeking is described as a system interaction to achieve a desired function or objective. Hoshin kanri or strategic planning is a system property that relates to how TPS is organized at various levels of hierarchies throughout the organization. The transformational system property states that all systems should have a way to transform inputs into outputs. Entropy and negative entropy describe the amount of disorderliness and orderliness in a system over time, respectively. A requisite of variety means for a system to cope with its environment it has to be at least as complicated as its environment.
