ABSTRACT

The discovery illustrates that Toyota Production System is again a system that is intended to be used by everyone in the organization. Ohno knew that Toyota had to analyze its systems completely and thoroughly to improve efficiency. One of the most popular problem-solving methods in industry is Toyota’s eight-step problem-solving process, sometimes referred to as A3 problem solving. Toyota’s soft-sided philosophies have also shaped Toyota Business Practices and can be observed in their “Drive and Dedication” points, which are said to describe the company’s heart and spirit that every team member should model when completing each of the eight steps. One of the characteristics that make Toyota’s problem-solving process unique is a strong emphasis on goal clarity. Toyota utilizes the ultimate goal to help users keep their eyes on the big picture. It is often easy to lose focus throughout problem solving, which is why Toyota wants members to reference the overall objective of the group, department, or business unit.
