ABSTRACT

Entropy is a measure of waste or disorderliness when a system tries to convert energy into some useful or meaningful form of work. Entropy is a property of systems used to understand how processes suffer from inefficiencies. One of the last hygiene factors that Toyota employs to prevent workers from losing interest in Toyota Production System (TPS) is the concept of workplace communication. For employees to support the company’s management systems and practices, basic needs must be fulfilled; otherwise, employees will do the bare minimum to keep their supervisor off their backs. Organizations are open systems that are highly dependent on environmental conditions. Harsh conditions cause open systems to increase in entropy and their state of disorder. TPS is a highly structured management system, not an organic or constantly evolving management system that has fuzzy boundaries. TPS is a disciplined, well-communicated, and highly structured relationship between management and labor.
