Even small calculation tasks can be frustrating to perform when they are typed line by line in the console window. If you make a mistake, an entire line or more might have to be retyped. For instance, in Chapter 1, we used three R commands to produce a graph:

If the data in one of the vectors were typed incorrectly, the graph would come out wrong, and the offending statements would have to be reentered. Fun then starts to resemble work.
