ABSTRACT
In this chapter we discuss the Bessel and Legendre equations and their solutions: Bessel and Legendre functions. These famous functions are widely used in the sciences; in particular, Bessel functions serve as a set of basis functions for BVP with circular or cylindrical symmetry, and the Legendre functions serve as a set of basis functions for BVP in spherical coordinates.
