ABSTRACT

The main goal of this chapter is to describe how knowledge dis-covery in databases (KDD) applications can be programmed as work-ows of services running in a distributed environment. We rst introduce the basic workow concepts, focusing on the main patterns used to compose workow activities. en, we present some workow management systems that are relevant to scientic application domains, including data analysis. Finally, we present some examples of distributed KDD workows and discuss how data analysis applications can be expressed as workows using graphical representations and coordination languages for their execution.
