ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines and discusses the role of service-oriented infrastructures in providing future ubiquitous services for data access, distribution, processing, and analysis. e requirements, the features, and the importance of service-oriented decentralized data-oriented techniques in ubiquitous computing, smart environments, and ambient intelligence applications are described. e main goal of this chapter is to envision new opportunities and application scenarios for data management and knowledge discovery by using new-generation service-oriented platforms that are mobile, pervasive, large scale, and can be composed of a massive number of devices according to the future Internet paradigm.
