ABSTRACT

The purpose of lubrication is to reduce friction between moving metal surfaces. To keep metal surfaces separated, lubricating grease should wet the metal and resist being displaced by the pressures it encounters. Lubricants are widely used in electrical connectors, switches, and circuit breakers. Lubricants improve the performance of electrical apparatus in many ways, such as reducing mating forces, extending plating durability, and enhancing corrosion protection. A procedure for lubrication troubleshooting of electrical equipment such as circuit breaker CBs is usually recommended by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer’s troubleshooting procedure is unavailable or ineffective, one can consider using diagnostic instruments, which can measure the trip time, force, resistance and vibration. Depending on application, manufacturers may specify various greases, which has been thoroughly tested for a specific application. Usually, each manufacturer lists all greases which should be applied at specific points and the greases are different for the mechanical and electrical parts.
