ABSTRACT

Within the instructional design community, there are a number of those who believe that the type of instructional medium should not be the critical consideration in training and instruction. Instead, the emphasis should be on whether the instructional method promotes the kinds of cognitive processes needed for learning. In principle, all media are capable of imparting either effective or ineffective instruction. Ultimately, success will largely depend on whether and how consideration is given to the goals of the learning program, the nature of the learning tasks, the characteristics of the trainee population, and many other factors associated with how instruction is delivered.
