ABSTRACT

The front-end analysis phase includes an organizational analysis, job/ task analysis, and trainee analysis. This phase of the process is used to deƒne the requirements and constraints of the training program and is critical to the speciƒcation of the learning objectives, the format and content of the program, implementation plan, and the evaluation criterion. In essence, the analyses conducted in this phase provide information on the organizational (e.g., organizational climate, goals), environmental (e.g., classroom, workplace, home), and social (e.g., peer support available) context in which the training will occur; what needs to be trained (knowledge, skills, attitudes, behaviors); and who needs to be trained (novices, experts, younger adults, older adults). A front-end analysis is critical to the development of an effective training program. Training programs will have limited success if they are based on a “one size ƒts all” design approach.
