ABSTRACT
It is suggested in Chapter 1 that a certain generalised inverse, called the group inverse, plays a key role in the development of results on nonnegative matrices. In this chapter we develop the background material and basic properties of the group inverse. We will pay particular attention to the properties of group generalised inverses when the matrices under discussion are singular and irreducible M-matrices.
