ABSTRACT

Both Bob and Roger occasionally brought up the prospect of my going into foundation work. They thought I had the right background and personality for it. I didn’t know much about foundations, but found the idea intriguing. This became a recurrent theme in our conversations and was occasionally linked with the tantalizing prospect of a foundation presidency. However, nothing came of it and after a while it began to sound like background music. I finally put the matter
