ABSTRACT

Now that we have a sound base of knowledge concerning TCP/IP, which includes IP addressing as well as the use of the Command Prompt and how data flow on a network, we are ready to focus on Windows built-in networking tools. In this chapter we cover in detail the operation and utilization of a variety of Windows built-in networking tools that can be used to perform different functions as well as ascertain if current networking conditions would enable you to perform future operations in a reasonable manner, such as integrating Video over IP. While we commence our review of built-in networking tools with the often used ping and tracert programs, we also analyze how we can use these tools in numerous situations beyond simply finding out if a workstation is reachable or about the route to a particular workstation.
