ABSTRACT

Psychometrics is a branch of psychology that deals with the design, administration, scoring, and interpretation of objective tests developed for the measurement of psychologically relevant variables, such as aptitude, personality, job performance, or academic achievement. Because of the socially relevant implications of highstakes testing in areas such as job selection and promotion, licensure, college admission, accreditation, and graduation and other competency certification, the issues of fairness and discrimination surrounding testing are often discussed in the media, and increasingly, in the courts.1
