ABSTRACT
The provision of new process plants offers a special opportunity to link
the best available technology with the objectives of sustainable processing.
Design has an essential role in achieving this, whether applied to entirely
new plants or to modifying existing plants. Chemical engineers make an
important ‘up-front’ contribution in design by initiating and developing
concepts of process schemes and the associated process plant.
