ABSTRACT
From a low base of 60 new guardianships in England in the period from April 1983 to March 1984, there were 139 new cases in 1988−9 and 667 by 1999−2000. The number of new cases then dipped. There were 561 new cases in 2001−02 and by 2009−10 the number was only 420.
