CASE 4.1 – Persistent symptoms of psychosis in schizophrenia A 38-year-old man has had schizophrenia for many years. He has been admitted to hospital repeatedly during episodes of acute psychosis. These symptoms initially responded to treatment with medication, but over recent years the symptoms have become increasingly persistent and resistant. He has had trials of a variety of antipsychotic medications, including depot preparations.
