ABSTRACT
Hypoxia or global cerebral ischemia will, if prolonged for 5 or
more minutes, cause coma, and those who survive may be left
with various deficits, as discussed below. Common causes
include carbon monoxide poisoning, strangulation, hanging,
drowning, hemorrhagic or septic shock, and, most notably,
cardiac arrest.
