ABSTRACT
D-dimer A test that measures the levels of products from the degradation of fibrin within blood clots. Raised D-dimer levels increase the suspicion of conditions such a pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. Low D-dimer levels can be used to exclude the possibility of these conditions and the need to perform expensive imaging tests.
