ABSTRACT
Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is a safe investigatory procedure
that involves lavaging a selected subsegment of the lungs with
sterile physiological saline via a fiberoptic bronchoscope to
sample lung lining fluid containing free cells and other intrinsic
or extrinsic inhaled components from the peripheral airways.
