ABSTRACT

Sarcoidosis is a disease with variable clinical course and often

spontaneous remission, so the decision to actively treat is

based on clinical judgment that treatment will improve the

patient’s quality of life. Understanding the psychological and

psychiatric aspects is paramount. It is important to consider

several topics: the psychosocial burden secondary to the

disease, patients presenting with psychiatric illness as a primary

manifestation of sarcoidosis, and the side-effects of treatment.
