ABSTRACT

Sarcoidosis, a commonplace inflammatory disease character-

ized by the formation of non-caseating granulomas, occurs

worldwide; no race, sex or age is out of its reach. Its

chameleon-like multisystem presentation involving more

than one organ in the body lets it easily cross the artificial

boundaries of medical specialties. The innovative and indivi-

dual approaches by international scientists of different dis-

ciplines have contributed to an engrossing historical account

of the disease (Scadding 1967; Scadding and Mitchell 1985).
